Caroline Khelaifia started Kam Otto in 2006, driven by her love to bring unique and quality European labels to Australia. Hailing from France, Caroline not only has the rich experience of 20 years in the fashion industry, but also the inspiration and natural instinct developed from cutting and playing with fabrics, colours and designs as a child.
Born and raised in a fashion-driven family in France, her Great Grandfather was Calogero Patermo, a ‘Tailleur pour Homme’ or Men's Tailor who trained in Paris in the early 1920s. Her Grandmother Calogera Patermo was a dressmaker in Grenoble who created her own studio in the 1960s. Her mother Sylvie Italiano was a modelist & stylist for Morgan Paris, so it was impossible for Caroline to resist the call. Launching a business in fashion was always on the cards.
After moving to Melbourne, Australia in 1994 for what was supposed to be only a short holiday, Caroline threw herself into modeling; fashion buying for leading retail stores; fashion and jewellery designing; and styling for music videos. Later, she established contracts with established players in the Australian fashion industry to work in wholesale and distribution, which naturally progressed to the launch of Kam Otto.
Calling Melbourne home to herself and her daughter, Caroline has a deep knowledge of all facets of the fashion industry both in Australia and abroad. Her extensive experience has given her a full understanding of the complex world of fashion, with which she is able to provide valuable personalised attention to meet each client’s needs.
